Essential Check Creation Guide
Getting Started
The Essential Check system allows you to perform and record important safety inspections within the care home. This guide will help you complete accurate and thorough essential checks.
Important Note: Essential checks can only be completed for the current date or up to 14 days in the past. Future dates are not permitted.
Inspection Date
- Date Selection (Required): Use the date picker to select when the inspection was performed
- Date Restrictions: You can only select dates from today going back 14 days
Tip: It's best practice to complete the essential check form on the same day as the inspection.
Completing the Inspection Form
- Question Format:
- Each question requires a response of either "Yes," "No," or where applicable, "N/A"
- All questions must be answered before submission
- Questions cover various safety aspects including fire safety, electrical safety, and general hazards
- Key Areas Covered:
- Combustible materials management
- Flammable liquids and gases storage
- Electrical safety
- Escape routes and fire safety
- Furniture condition
Adding Comments
- Use the comments section to provide additional information about any issues identified
- Comments are especially important when answering "No" to any safety questions
- Document any corrective actions that have been taken or are required
- If no issues are found, the comments section can be left blank
Tip: Be specific in your comments about locations and nature of any issues found to help with follow-up actions.
Verification and Submission
- Review all answers for accuracy
- Ensure any identified issues are properly documented in the comments
- Check the confirmation box to verify the records are true and correct
- Click the "Create Essential Check" button to submit your inspection
Note: The submission button will remain disabled until you check the confirmation box. After submission, you'll be redirected to the essential checks overview page.
