Emergency Action: If in doubt, dial 999 immediately. Always seek advice from first aid trained staff if available.

When encountering a medical emergency, remember these key steps:

Common Emergency Situations

Unconscious But Breathing

Action Required: Place in recovery position and monitor breathing until help arrives.

Not Breathing

Immediate Action Required:
  • Call 999 immediately
  • Begin CPR
  • Continue until help arrives or person shows signs of life

Specific Conditions

Anaphylaxis

Heavy Bleeding

Burns and Scalds

Stroke - FAST Test

Remember FAST:
  • Face - Has their face fallen on one side?
  • Arms - Can they raise both arms?
  • Speech - Is their speech slurred?
  • Time - Time to call 999

Heart Attack Signs

Action Required:
  • Call 999 immediately
  • Have person sit in comfortable position
  • Give 300mg aspirin to chew if available and suitable
  • Monitor until help arrives
